Charity Trekking Adventures UK 2026/27: Choose Your Cause & Your Trail

4 min read

If you’re searching for charity challenges in the UK for 2026 or 2027, a multi-day trek is one of the most rewarding ways to raise money: a real adventure through some of Britain’s finest landscapes, a goal your supporters can get behind, and a finish line you’ll never forget. With Endurotrek you choose the trail, choose how much to carry, and choose the cause – one of our charity partners, or any charity close to your heart.

Here’s how charity places work, the five challenges you can pick from, and some practical fundraising ideas.

Why a trek makes a great charity challenge

  • It’s a story people want to follow. “I’m walking 96 miles across the Highlands in four days” is easy to share and easy to support.

  • It’s achievable with training. You don’t need to be an athlete. With 12 weeks of preparation, most active people can complete one of our challenges.

  • It’s a proper adventure. Lochs, Roman forts, moorland, sea cliffs and golden villages – and evenings at camp with people raising money for causes of their own.

  • It’s flexible. Every route has three ways to take part, so you can set the level of endeavour that feels right.

How charity places work

A charity place means you raise sponsorship for your chosen charity. There are three ways to take one:

  • Option 1: pay a £75 registration fee with a fundraising target of £799.

  • Option 2: pay a £225 registration fee with a lower fundraising target of £499.

  • Option 3: pay the full event price (this varies by event) and raise whatever you can.

We ask that you raise at least 50% of your target 4 weeks before the event start date. *subject to change

You can raise money for:

  • Sense – supporting people with complex disabilities, including deafblindness

  • SANE – a UK mental health charity

  • Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice – caring for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families

  • Any charity you choose – if there’s a cause that matters to you, you can walk for it

On every charity place you get the same event support as everyone else: checkpoints with drinks and snacks, support staff throughout, camping, hot breakfast and a packed lunch, baggage transfer, a medical team and a personalised finishers keepsake at the finish.

Three ways to take part

  • Enjoy: walk with a day pack only; your bags are transferred.

  • Endeavour: carry 10kg+ plus your food and water.

  • Endure: carry 15kg+ plus your food and water.

Choosing Endeavour or Endure can give your fundraising an extra hook: “I’m carrying 15kg for 109 miles” tends to get people reaching for their wallets.

Charity challenge ideas: how to hit your target

  1. Set up your fundraising page early and tell your story – why this cause, why this trail.

  2. Make the first donation yourself. Pages that start with a donation tend to attract more.

  3. Share your training. Post photos of your long walks; every update reminds people to give.

  4. Ask your employer about matched giving. Many companies match staff fundraising.

  5. Hold a side event: a quiz night, bake sale or sponsored practice walk with friends.

  6. Offer a mile. Ask supporters to “sponsor a mile” and dedicate each one to them.

  7. Post from the trail and the finish. Plenty of donations arrive after the event, so share a photo of your personalised finishers keepsake.

Remember the milestone: aim to have raised at least 50% of your target 4 weeks before the event start date.

Taking part as a team

Charity challenges work brilliantly for groups of friends, clubs and workplaces. Endurotrek has worked with corporate partners including Barclays and Sky, and we can create bespoke team events too – see our outdoor team-building ideas post.

FAQs

What are the best charity challenges in the UK?

Multi-day treks along National Trails such as the West Highland Way, Hadrian’s Wall, the Cleveland Way and the Jurassic Coast are popular because they’re memorable, achievable with training and easy for supporters to follow.

How much does a charity trek cost?

With Endurotrek there are three options: a £75 registration fee with a £799 fundraising target, a £225 registration fee with a lower fundraising target of £499, or the full event price (this varies by event) and raise whatever you can. *subject to change

Can I choose my own charity?

Yes. You can fundraise for our partners – Sense, SANE or Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice – or any charity you choose.

When do I need to finish fundraising?

We ask that you raise at least 50% of your target 4 weeks before the event start date.

Do I need to be very fit to do a charity trek?

You need to train, but you don’t need to be an athlete. Our 12-week training plan builds you up, and you can choose the Enjoy level so you only carry a day pack.
